Supporting, leading, and participating in community initiatives has always been central to my life.
Before entering journalism in 2017, I worked full-time in communications and research for nonprofits like the East Bay Alliance for a Sustainable Economy in Oakland and Glide Memorial Church in San Francisco.
I currently serve as a consultant and assistant administrator for Manos Amigues, Mexico City's first soup kitchen and cultural center by and for the LGBTQ+ community.
I've led ambitious and successful fundraising campaigns to support causes like the Indigenous protest camps at Standing Rock, a sanctuary for trans artists in southern Mexico, and the Manos Amigues kitchen.
I've long endeavored to foster a more equitable world by re-distributing resources, actively challenging my prejudices, and inspiring others into anti-racist practice. I have been shaped by several training programs aimed at unlearning oppression, as well as by organizing with Black- and Indigenous-led movements in New Orleans, Oakland, New York City, and the Dakotas.
I have written extensively on race as part of efforts to help white people confront our biases and privileges, always with the goal of turning awareness into action. I was one of four authors who spearheaded a broad coalition to write and circulate a holistic racial justice petition for a Bay Area school district during the 2020 George Floyd uprisings.
